Virgin Atlantic, Joby partner of British Airways Taxi Services

Virgin Atlantic has partnered with Joby Aviation, a manufacturer of electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft to develop taxi services in the UK, the two companies announced on Sunday.

The new partnership is based on existing agreements to open air taxi services in the United States and the United Kingdom, according to the two companies.

Current plans include Joby offering short-term trips in the UK, starting with regional and urban ties at Heathrow and Virgin Atlantic Hubs at Manchester Airport. Sample trips may include a 15-minute flight from Manchester Airport to Leeds, or an 8-minute flight from Heathrow Airport to Canary Pier.

Both companies did not provide an estimated start date for Joby's UK service.

“Jomi wants to offer prices comparable to existing premium ground ride sharing options,” the companies said.
