In the past few years, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport A few local aviation geeks who love sharing their passion for aviation online were invited to a special gathering. We all met airside, were briefed on the day's itinerary, went through security, then piled into a few vans and headed to the airport, all while being escorted by airport operations staff. This part alone is pretty funny, but it gets better from there.

bonus: Our 2003 SEA AvGeeks Airport Day Photos
We spent over four hours between runways 16L/34R and 16C/34C, which was fantastic. I just brought my iPhone to share photos our social mediabut luckily our Francis Zella Was there too; he took much better pictures than I did. Being so close to the aircraft as it taxis, takes off and lands is a completely different experience.

As they taxi, it feels like you could reach out and touch the winglets of a wide-body aircraft (I didn't try that). We did receive quite a few confused looks from the crew, followed by many smiles and waves. Of course, the running joke throughout the day (funny to me at least) was shouting when an Alaskan Boeing 737 or Embraer E-175 took off – there were many, many more of them!

Of all the aircraft I saw that day, the one that excited me the most was the FedEx MD-11. So classic. It's so beautiful! The second one is an Alaska Airlines E-175 (let me finish…) with special Horizon Air livery. As a child of the 80's it brought back memories of flying Horizon Air Dash-8-100s, subway bus, Fokker F27and Fokker F28.
This year certainly didn't disappoint. Check out all the additional photos below!
