Road trip season is approaching. For inspiration, we often turn to John Margarice's American Photo Archives on the Road in the Library of Congress.
Between 1969 and 2008, Margolies traveled around the country, taking photos of roadside attractions and classic (usually alternative) commercial structures across the United States.
Like the teapot dome gas station structure above, some of these still exist.
Gone are the others, but are forgotten because of the photos.
Here are some of our favorites:
Bunny Statue, Santa Village, Jefferson, New Hampshire

Headless statue in Marinland, Florida

Hat “N” boot gas station in Seattle, Washington

United Auto Sales Logo in Clarksville, Arkansas

Mysterious location entrance to St. Ignas, Michigan

Storybook Land Park in Aberdeen, South Dakota
