I care about sharing!

Over the years, cruise companies have added rules and changed policies. In fact, over the past year, we have seen major cruise companies implement or enforce new rules.

In some cases, some cruisers may be upset. But cruise companies must make some positive changes, too.

Despite many of these cruise policy updates over the past year, I also include some of the major changes that have taken place over the past few years.

No matter you are one First cruiser Or experienced cruise travelers, you will want to know the new rules that cruises must implement this year.

12 new rules must be added in 2025

1. There is no longer aquarius

Water bottleWater bottle

A major change adopted by most mainstream cruise companies is that passengers are no longer allowed to carry water on the ship. I still remember the days when I took a tank of water to the cruise terminal, left it to the porter, and then arrived at my cabin.

While many cruise companies claim that the change is caused by environmental problems, cruise companies may also try to stop passengers from using water bottles for alcohol sneaking.

Instead, cruise passengers are encouraged to bring refilled bottles as cruise ships provide safe drinking water. You can get water at the buffet and at the drink station at any bar or restaurant.

2. Royal Caribbean's Unopened Beverage Policy

in the past, Royal Caribbean Passengers are able to order soft drinks, beer and other beverages at the bar and take them back to the cabin. However, the new policy requires the opening of beverages after service.

This new rule affects cruise passengers who want to enjoy fresh drinks during the cruise or at another point during the cruise.

The policy mainly affects high-brand guests such as Diamond and Diamond Plus members who receive a certain amount of free daily drinks.

While some passengers questioned the fairness of the policy, the Cruise Line cited concerns about sharing alcohol or providing alcohol to minors.

3. Smoking restrictions on the balcony

Smoking on the balcony was largely banned by the parade line, a change that changed after the popularity of “Star Princess” in 2006. To improve safety, cruise companies have designated smoking areas and upgraded ship materials to reduce the risk of flammability.

Although this rule is standard in all major North American cruise lines, it is not common on certain European routes. If you've ever been in a cruise port where you're cruising, be aware of cruise ships like Aida and Mein Schiff, as you may see cruise passengers smoking on the balcony.

4. Newly prohibited project updates

Each cruise line has a list of prohibited items. Before you make a cruise, it is best to check out this list to make sure you don’t bring anything prohibited on board.

Some of the new items that have been banned recently are Bluetooth speakers (Carnival), Internet routers and non-exterior-protected power bars (in the Royal Caribbean).

You may be wondering why?

Bluetooth speakers seem to be banned Carnival cruise Because some cruising passengers played music loudly in public places, this disturbed other guests.

Recently, Internet routers and Starlink Minis have been banned on most cruise lines because they can interfere with Cruise's communication systems.

Power poles (protected by surge and non-obesity) have been banned recently in the Royal Caribbean. Although the cause has not been confirmed, there is still speculation that it is due to the safety of cruise ships, identifying whether it is subject to unpopular issues.

5. Sniffing dog while boarding

Passengers may encounter sniffing dogs during boarding. These Cruise boarding safety Measures designed to prevent smuggling of illegal substances on ships and comply with strict maritime laws and port regulations.

During our recent cruise on board Carnival celebrationswe had to stand in a line and let our carry-on bags smell by the sniffing dogs. Although the process was quick, it surprised us and it was a fun way to start our cruise vacation.

6. Homemade food gifts for crew members

Although packaged snacks are welcome, homemade food is not allowed as a gift for cruise ships Crew. This policy prevents health risks and ensures that crew members are uncomfortable.

The crew may feel sad about rejecting the passengers’ baked goods, and in the past, some crew members may have become ill by eating homemade food from passengers.

7. Transparent pricing without hidden fees

One of the positive changes that happened to the cruise industry last year was transparent pricing without hidden fees. Due to California’s honest pricing laws, cruise companies now display prices, including taxes and port fees.

This change benefits travelers across the United States by making cruise costs more transparent.

8. Scooter size limit

Carnival Cruise Company recently implemented a new rule that scooters must be installed in the cabin. This is due to the accessibility and safety hazards caused by the scooter lining the corridor.

according to Carnival's policy on personal mobile equipmentthe scooter must be able to pass through its 22-inch (55.9 cm) wide entrance door and must be folded and collapsed. Guests with scooters larger than 21 inches (53.34 cm), or those traveling in the same cabin, will need an accessible cabin with a wider doorway.

A non-compliance scooter can result in guests being denied boarding. Rental services like Scootaround offer travelers an alternative to cruise approval. Information can be found in Carnival websiteso you can check it out before you go.

9. Open the chair pig

Chairpeople keep deck chairs for a long time when they are not in use, which is a frustration for many cruise ships. Many cruisers may have to do with the difficulty of finding chairs on the Rido deck at sea!

Cruises like Royal Caribbean and Carnival have implemented time limits to address chair booking issues. Monitor unattended chairs and during 30–40 minutes of inactivity, items will be deleted.

During the recent cruise we saw signs on the chairs reminding guests of the “unreserved deck chair” rule. The crew also left notes on the vacant chairs indicating the time. After about 30 minutes, the crew will delete the items and advise guests to collect items from the towel station.

10. No glassware on the deck of Rido

You will soon notice that glassware is not made when you hang out next to the cruise ship. Even your cocktail or wine will be served in plastic cups or wine glasses.

This makes perfect sense because no one wants the risk of damage to glass near a pool or hot tub.

However, among cruisers, the new policy that cruise companies have already implemented is very unpopular among cruisers: “There is no drink or hot tub policy in the pool.”

Although this may have been written rules for years, it is not always actively enforced. However, during a recent MSC cruise, we noticed that this rule was strictly maintained, even if it was because passengers sitting on the edge of the pool were drinking.

Why did it suddenly change? Opinions vary. Some speculate that this is about avoiding overflow in the water. Others, by contrast, mention an attractive reason (the cruiser stays in the water for a long time and may not leave the bathroom to rest).

11. Limit the amount of food you can order

There is a lot of food to eat during the tour! But the biggest Changes in cruise Over the past few years, major restaurants have introduced food order restrictions. Those who have been cruising for many years have particularly criticized the change.

Historically, guests can order as many appetizers, entrees and desserts as possible without limiting them. However, several cruise ships have begun to impose restrictions and even require additional order fees.

For example, Carnival cruise Now, guests are allowed to order up to two main courses in the dining room, but the third main course costs $5. MSC Cruises There is a similar policy that charges $5 for additional power.

Additionally, certain foods (such as lobster tails) become more restrictive. On formal nights, many cruise routes no longer include unlimited lobster tails.

Instead, they may offer premium lobster dishes for an extra fee, or in some cases they completely remove the lobster night.

While these changes may be like cost-cutting measures, cruise routes often view food waste as a key factor in decision-making.

It is not uncommon to see some cruise passengers order large amounts of food, just leaving most of the food unaffected. This waste and rising operating costs are likely to affect these new policies.

In other words, there is still no shortage of food on the boat! Is it there Main restaurant, exist buffetor at Professional restaurantyou will find many options.

12. No shared drink pack

Cruise drink packCruise drink pack

One policy that stimulates certain cruisers is to strictly enforce relevant rules Beverage pack. Beverage packaging is expensive and in most cases all adults in all cabins must buy one regardless of how much alcohol is consumed.

However, this is not always the case. Just a few years ago, some cruise companies allowed one person to buy beverage packaging in the cabin, and the option was skipped for others.

As with many rules, attempts to bypass the system have led to stricter enforcement. Passengers are known to share drinks from one package and can even bring their own alcohol into a water bottle or other container.

Cruise routes are very familiar with these strategies, and these behaviors ultimately affect everyone. To maintain fairness and policy enforcement, most lines require that all cabin members have the same beverage packaging.

Although this rule encounters frustration, especially those who don’t drink, it is an example of how actions of a few people lead to wider restrictions.
