A new evolution of Windstar's three sailboats – wind star, wind spirit, wind wave – The company is well underway with its “Setting Sales” update, a multi-million dollar, multi-year renovation program. Renovations (pictured above are renderings of the new Amphora on Wind Surf) have been completed on the 148-guest Wind Star and are ongoing on Wind Surf and Wind Spirit, covering all of the ship from cabins and suites to the restaurant and pool deck.
Stijn Creupelandt, Chief Operating Officer of Windstar, said the inspiration for this major renovation was to ensure that the ship’s spaces felt relevant to the times, while retaining the charm that makes each ship so special. “The initiative aims to provide guests with an updated space that inspires relaxation, fosters connection and meets multi-functional needs on a small sailing vessel,” he said.
As you can see from our visuals (for completed areas, we share photos, and for projects still planned, we have renderings), the new vibe is earthy, clubby, and quietly elegant. “It’s the feeling of stepping onto your own private yacht, but with the service of a luxury boutique hotel,” said Jessica Payne, interior design manager at Windstar.
Here's how the upgrade rolls out.

project: The 342-guest Wind Surf will undergo a $7.5 million renovation in two phases. The first one will take place in November 2024. The first phase of the refurbishment includes the ship's three uppermost suites, which will be remodeled to reflect the Broadmoor and Island designs found on Star-class ships, with a further one renovated in a yacht-like style. Other projects include renovations to the Amphora, Compass Rose, pool deck and bar. Additionally, the lobby, Yacht Club Café Bar and boutique have been refreshed.
Both parts of the Wind Surf refurbishment process will be carried out at the Navantia shipyard in Cadiz, Spain.
What’s next: The second phase of Wind Surf’s “Sail Away” will be completed in December 2026. During the second phase of Wind Surf’s refurbishment, all remaining accommodation will be transformed with new furniture, bedding, carpets, interactive TVs, and artwork and decor. Both parts of the Wind Surf refurbishment process were carried out at the Navantia shipyard in Cadiz, Spain.

project: The 148-cabin Wind Star has completed two phases of upgrades. As a result, the ship’s reception area received expanded seating and retail space, the lounge adjacent to the Yacht Club Café received new furniture and lighting, and Windstar’s World Spa and Gym also received a new look. New fitness equipment installed. The pool deck is one of Wind Star's most social spaces, featuring a new pool and jacuzzi, an expanded pool bar, and new outdoor seating and relaxation areas in a fresh pop of color. The owner's suite has been completely redesigned.

Wind Star's technology has also received a major upgrade, with new, larger flat-screen TVs in all cabins and suites.
In the second phase, the cabin was remodeled. Cabin updates improve comfort with a new upholstered headboard, integrated lighting and convenient bedside charging. Windstar builds on the enhancements of Wind Star Phase 1; which includes upgraded technology (Starlink connectivity and new TVs with on-demand content) and redesign Owner's suite.
Its main restaurant, Amphora, and the rooftop café, Veranda, which serves lunch and breakfast, have also been completely renovated.
