Most countries have a sweet spot. I am referring to the village/area where I am located best dessert Origin, production or sale. In Haiti, that place is Petit-Goâve. The dessert that makes this place famous: dous makos.
I had never heard of dous makos when I went little goavo March 2017. However, I did see and try these delicacies before. It’s actually very difficult to visit Haiti and no Try the dous makos. they are That To be cherished and loved.
What is Dos Marcos?
Dous makos (also called douce macoss) are a milk-based Haitian fudge. It is divided into three layers, each layer has a different color. Traditional colors/layers are beige (vanilla), brown (chocolate), and pink/red (food coloring).

Although dous makos are an essential and ingrained part of the authentic Haitian culinary aesthetic, they are not entirely 100% Haitian.
Belgian origins of Spanish style
The roots of douce macoss can be traced back to 1939 in Petit-Goâve. More specifically, they involved a Belgian Haitian man named Fernand Marcos (aka: Ferdinand Marcos).
Editor's note: Dous makos literally means “sweet makos,” a nod to the dessert's creator.
Mr. Marcos is said to have drawn inspiration for his unique gummies from: tuluma centuries-old Spanish/Mediterranean nougat dessert. However, turrón is mostly made from almonds, while Makos' creations are more dynamic. peanut butter, cinnamon, almonds, fennel, even rum The flavors are all common.
Dous makos can be found all over Haiti. Hotels and restaurants, grocery stores, cafes, roadside vendors…
But at the same time, there's only one best place to get them.
Madame the Crown Prince: Dous Makos Mecca
After a long day of adventure, I stumbled across Madame Dauphin's home Bananier Beach. You can bet I'm exhausted. It didn't help that we had the hour-plus drive back to Port-au-Prince ahead of us. However, my stay at Madame Dauphin's house revived my spirits.
The Dauphin herself happened to be there when we arrived, which made my sugar rush even sweeter.

It's so amazing to meet/see the people behind beloved food in the place where the legend began. These special sessions, especially delicious ones like this one, are what I miss the most while traveling in Haiti. Hopefully the current turmoil will end soon so we can all experience the beauty of this amazing place again soon.
