Lake Como's towns are stunningly beautiful, the scenery is one of the most stunning in the world, and there's plenty to do in the area – whether you're an avid hiker, water sports enthusiast, villa relaxer or old town stroller. So whatever your speed, Lake Como has the town and hotel to suit you.


Where to stay in Lake Como, Italy
Varenna
One of the more peaceful resorts Lake Como has to offer, Varenna is a charming little community overlooking the central part of Lake Como and Bellagio.
While the town's waterfront does get very busy during tourist season, Varenna is definitely worth a visit for its beautiful walkways, lively city center, and Villa Monastero, a botanical garden and museum.

For a mid-range option in Varenna, try Hotel Montecordeno. The hotel is very close to the water, has great views, and has a delicious restaurant.
If you are looking for luxury accommodation in Varenna with panoramic views of Lake Como, swimming pool and fitness centre, then Royal Victoria Hotel This is where you should go.
Bellano
Bellano is a small village on the eastern shore of Lake Como, famous for Orrido di Bellano, its gorges and gorges, which are definitely a sight to see in the area. The canyon has several footbridges that connect to the rocks for easy exploration, and there are waterfalls and caves nearby.
The town of Bellano itself is quiet and doesn't have as many tourists as places like Varenna or Como, making it perfect if you're looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway.

Often referred to as the “Pearl of the Lake”, Bellagio is filled with elegant boutiques, picturesque villas, the beautiful gardens of Villa Melzi and unmissable bars. If you want to do some water sports while in Bellagio, consider heading to nearby Pescaro, an old fishing village that offers kayaking and water skiing.
Bellagio is also very close to Bellano, so you can easily enjoy the best of both worlds.

Belvedere Hotel The hotel is one of Bellagio's top four-star hotels and has been family-run since 1880. It has a swimming pool, hot tub and panoramic views of Lake Como.

If you are looking for a more urban environment with a lively atmosphere, then I recommend staying in this central city. In Como, visit the local Gothic-designed cathedral, learn about local history at the Como Archaeological Museum, and take the funicular to Brunate for a different view of the lake.

Griante
Griante is about 30 kilometers away from the city of Como and has beautiful scenery, a long history and many villas. While there, it's definitely worth visiting some of the nearby gardens and walking from the town to the church of San Martino, which is quite steep in places but definitely worth the trek.
This town in particular is a popular place to start a leisurely hike to Monte Legno.

Lecco
Lecco is a low-key community on the eastern edge of Lake Como, with the beautiful Alps as its backdrop. While this town doesn't have the hustle and bustle of Como, it still has great facilities as well as beaches, water sports options and picturesque scenery.
Additionally, Lecco is an ideal place to stay if you want to go cycling, hiking or, in winter, skiing.

Tremezzo
Tremezzo is an elegant village near Bellagio with beautiful villas (including the famous Villa Carlotta), art museums, ruins of a medieval fortress and classic hotels.
While there, don't miss the 7-8 hour hike up Mount Crocione, the view is definitely worth the hike.

Brunat
Known as the “Balcony of the Alps,” Brunate may not be located along the coastline, but it is famous for its hilly landscape and stunning views of Lake Como, which is easily reached by the Como Cable Car. Additionally, the town is famous for its elegant villas, the Volta Lighthouse and the excellent nearby hiking routes.

A lovely mid-range option from Brunate, Bellavista Boutique Hotel This Art Nouveau building is just a few steps from the Como cable car. The hotel is highly rated and even has a sauna and hot tub.

Cernobbio
Cernobbio is a village just 2 kilometers northwest of Como, a place popular with holidaymakers but still with a quaint feel. Due to its privileged location, the town is full of palaces and beautiful villas (the most popular are Villa Erba and Villa Bernasconi).
Furthermore, if you are a music fan who likes to attend events and concerts, then head to the Riva di Cernobbio (Cernobbio Lakeside Promenade). What a great place to spend a beautiful Italian summer night!

In Menaggio, visit the town's many chapels, spend time at the Menaggio Cadenabia Golf Club, hike to the ruins of the medieval castle, and try some water sports.

Highly rated budget accommodation in Menaggio is Albergo Ilvapol. The hotel is just a few steps from the lake, has a restaurant and a beautiful terrace, and is very close to the bus stop.

Grand Hotel Menaggio It is a luxury hotel located on the lake shoreline, just a short walk from the ferry terminal. Rooms here are spacious, and the hotel offers rental water sports equipment, two restaurants, a swimming pool, and live piano music in the evenings.
