Few photos capture the meaning of hiking better than this photo I took along the Cinnamon Bay Nature Loop. saint john. That said, it was a cute little hike. It’s more of a walk in nature than a strenuous adventure.
Soft.
cute.
Doesn’t sound like one of our typical Caribbean wilderness trips, does it?
Yes and no. Still, under the right circumstances, the Cinnamon Bay Natural Loop is worth a look.

For my wife and I, the “right situation” during the STJ escape in November 2024 centered on the main reason for the trip: our 25th wedding anniversary.
Of course, my wife and I both love hiking. In fact, she rekindled my love of bushwalking during our trip in June 2010. nevis island.
(look Nevis' Headwaters Hiking Trail and Rekindled Romance Post more information about more challenging adventures. )
However, our trip to St. John's was all about relaxing and reconnecting. Nothing too strenuous. At least not outside our romantic paradise, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, take a bath after lunch cinnamon baywe decided to give this soft adventure a try. Almost immediately, we were glad we did it.
The nature loop begins just across the street from the entrance to the Cinnamon Bay parking lot. Only 0.5 miles total. Overall, the foundation is good throughout this section, especially when part of the trail crosses the boardwalk.

There's also helpful signage in nice shapes scattered along the way to give you more insight into the attractions.

Points of interest include: ancient ruins Cinnamon Bay Sugar Plantation.

In the shadows of the forest and filtered sunlight, the ruins take on a heightened poignancy, the haunted legacy hanging heavy in the air.
Along with this emotion, weird graves like this…

I have to say, I didn't expect anything like this to happen.
We encountered two different groups of graves along the Cinnamon Bay Nature Loop. One of the pictures is the final resting place Margaret Bernard Hardmardating back to 1836.
However, any weird feelings we felt on the nature loop were tempered by adorable forest companions, like the picture at the beginning of this post.

During our 0.5 mile jaunt, we encountered over 20 white-tailed deer.

Unlike the deer I knew growing up on St. Croix, these guys weren't nervous or shy at all. In fact, they seemed happy and comfortable to welcome us into their world. They were grazing just a few feet away from us and didn't even show any signs of alarm when we passed by.
Yes, the Cinnamon Bay Natural Loop is very short and easy. But at the same time, it's full of surprises. If you're looking for a relaxing yet rewarding introduction to St. John's hiking adventures, this is it!
