We're celebrating a couple of big anniversaries this week here at Theme Park World.
First, on Tuesday, Shanghai Disneyland celebrated its 10th anniversary. Disney is doing an international press conference for this, so I'm on a plane right now, flying across the Pacific, visiting the park for the first time. That completes the collection of all 12 Disney theme parks for me, so look for extensive analysis of these 12 parks on Theme Park Insider in the coming weeks.
Except, of course, for all the news coming out of Shanghai this week.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure celebrates its 16th birthday on Thursday, June 18. This development took Universal Studios to another level, allowing it to add and improve attractions on the scale it is today. If you'd like to look back on that historic day, allow me to link to one of my favorite stories on Theme Park Insider again: Harry Potter and the day that changed a theme park forever.
In more Universal Pictures news this week, the company is hosting a big press preview of its upcoming Universal Children's Resort in suburban Dallas. Jacob Sundstrom will be covering for us in Texas when I fly back from Japan. Watch the website and listen to our podcast this week for his full report.
Finally, Disney on the Yard returns on Friday, June 19, at Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort in California. The event celebrates HBCUs with a Southern California alumni reunion event. Drummer Mickey Mouse will also be returning to the event this year.
