The chill of winter is coming to us. Here, as we look forward to warmer weather in the coming months, we also start planning our annual SpotLAX event. So we're super excited to announce that #SpotLAX2022 will be held the weekend of September 16-18, 2022! Like every year, this event will be a fun-filled weekend with great airplanes, great views, and great people.
For the fifth time, we’ll be back at Brett Snyder’s “The grumpy Docfest“. The event will be held on the morning of Saturday, September 17th at the world-famous park across from In-N-Out Burger on Sepulveda Blvd.
Who participates in SpotLAX? Anyone who enjoys watching planes with a group of like-minded people. While many of us carry a lot of camera equipment, it is by no means necessary. Quite a few attendees only brought a cell phone, but they had a great time just looking at what was coming in. As a long-time contributor to NYCA stephanie german Said: “Come for the plane, stay for the #avgeek community!”
Although we see a few first-time attendees each year, many return to this event year after year. John Wetter is one of those in 2021: “As a newbie last fall, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. (I) can't wait to come back!” Every year, we see some attendees extend their weekend to include days before and/or after the official event date.
Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, #SpotLAX2021 was a huge success. This year, we are following similar guidelines to last year. in:
•We will follow all applicable CDC and local health department Recommendations, requirements and guidelines. Please note that these are subject to change between now and the event and may differ from last year.
•Mask wearing and social distancing are strongly encouraged when in outdoor groups. Masks (and many other items) by NYCAviation Available in our store.
• As the recent surge in Omicron variant cases illustrates, the conditions for hosting events can change quickly. Last minute restrictions, including complete cancellation of events, can happen at any time.
•At this time, we are not planning to host any indoor events. We hope to be able to secure an outdoor venue so that we can host our very popular dinner and raffle again. This one, like most other details, will be revealed at a later date.
