Michelin Guide restaurants around the world (with video)

Love dining at Michelin-starred restaurants when traveling? We've included the Michelin Guide restaurants we've visited around the world (some with videos).

French industrialists André Michelin and Édouard Michelin, the founders of Michelin tires, compiled the first Michelin Guide in 1900 to create demand for cars and thus more Michelin tires .

Since its expansion in Europe in 1911, the Michelin Guide has continuously expanded its reach and now covers 43 countries in Europe, Asia, North and South America.

As a traveling foodie and someone who travels long distances to try Michelin Guide restaurants, I always enjoy these gastronomic experiences, some of which are unlike others you'll experience.

In fact, the meal that changed my life was at a three Michelin star restaurant.

Michelin dining has become a category of its own in the gastronomic world due to its unique concepts and immersive storytelling, and it's always fun to compare how different destinations and restaurants fare.

What does a Michelin star rating mean?

The most coveted achievement for a restaurant is a Michelin star!

The Michelin star rating is a three-star rating system awarded to restaurants by Michelin inspectors based on their anonymous dining experience:

  • One Michelin star: High quality cooking, worth a stop!
  • Michelin two stars: The cooking skills are superb and worth a detour!
  • Michelin three stars: Delicious food, worth a special trip!

Restaurants are judged based on the following five criteria:

  • Quality of ingredients used
  • Master flavors and cooking techniques
  • The chef's personality is in his dishes
  • harmony of tastes
  • Consistency between visits

How about Green Star, Bib Gourmand and Recommendations?

  • green star: Awarded to a restaurant in recognition of its leadership in sustainable gastronomy.
  • Bib Gourmand: The food is great and the prices are very reasonable. Pricing standards vary based on the monetary value of the destination.
  • respected: A sign of a chef using quality ingredients to prepare a meal with care; simply a delicious meal.

did you know? Any restaurant in the Michelin Guide, whether a Star, Bib Gourmand or Recommended, can have its current designation raised or lowered, including being removed from the guide.

This coincides with the annual Michelin Guide Awards Ceremony.

Many people are looking for delicious restaurants, especially when traveling, but some countries have more Michelin-starred restaurants than others. France tops the list with 632 Michelin-starred restaurants.

Of these, 74 have received at least two stars and 29 have achieved the prestigious three-star rating. Three Michelin stars are the highest honor a restaurant can receive and require tremendous effort and exceptional quality.
