I'm a bit of a flip flop snob. Living in Hawaii, slippers are a necessity and part of your daily wardrobe. Spare flip flops are a must – in your gym bag, in your hiking backpack, in the car because you never know when you’ll want to spend the day at the beach. Better to be ready and prepared! Since it is our daily transportation for our feet, having slippers that are comfortable and durable is essential.

We were recently introduced to Kaka'ako Casuals and get the chance to try out their latest range of slippers,”Limulus“. Before we get into the features of the new slippers, let's talk about the company behind the footwear designed in Hawaii. Kaka'ako Kasuals is a family-owned, Hawaiian, woman-owned business on Oahu. Their artists and designers are all local Hawaiians, and they offer footwear for the whole family. Like slippers, reef walking shoes, t-shirts, towels, and more!

KAKA'AKO KASUUALS latest design: LIMULUA
The latest additions to the Kaka'ako Kasuals are pear wood line ——Two years of preparation! This is Limulus Navy blue. The soles of the slippers are partly made from algae! The Limu Line is the first of its kind in Hawaii. Kaka'ako Kasuals is the only company using algae in the bottoms of their slippers. Features of pear wood line:
- Arch support
The outsole tooling features built-in arch support to evenly distribute pressure across your feet, providing much-needed body alignment. Enhanced stability can reduce foot pain and problems associated with imbalance and lack of proper support. - Recycled nylon straps, pull tabs and toe anchors
To minimize the impact of our products on the planet, the sandal collection uses only regenerated nylon. - Laminated Lycra
To reduce irritation on the top of the foot, the series features a seamless laminated strap construction that eliminates the need for stitching where the strap meets the foot. The material also stretches in all the right places for ultimate foot comfort. - double density buffering
The sandal's midsole is made from a stiffer density material to provide the support you need for all-day adventure wear. The footbed is made of softer density EVA, ensuring a soft, slippery feel underfoot that lasts all day. - Recycled rubber outsole
The rubber sole is non-slip and provides excellent traction as you explore the great outdoors while reducing your carbon footprint.
It’s incredible to see how we humans can use plants (algae) to create wearable, durable clothing!

when we slip Limulus ($29.99) Slippers, feel very solid. Exploring mossy shorelines (probably some kind of algae) can be slippery, but the Limulua slippers make the slimy surface more accessible. The support and comfort are great! It's cool that Kaka'ako Kasuals incorporates sustainability into their products and the lower prices make them more affordable.
If you want to support a high-quality local company that practices green initiatives in its footwear, wear Kaka'ako Kasuals with confidence.
