leavenworth adventure park Opening in 2023, Tumwater Twister is Washington State's first alpine roller coaster.
The ride is perched on a hillside overlooking the town of Leavenworth and offers stunning views of the Cascade Mountains.
It's fairly short in length for an alpine coaster, with only 2,000 feet of downhill portion and an elevation difference of about 200 feet, but it's still a fun ride.
Rather than hugging the terrain, it's built on supports, which both makes the coaster very visible on the hill and allows for more flexibility in track layout. These include some nice spirals, as well as some pretty steep descents.
Unfortunately, there's also a lot of automatic braking, so even if the rider is cruising down the track without using the brakes, speed is severely hampered. To make matters worse, at least part of the automatic braking is applied on descents, which might otherwise be the highlight of the ride.
Tumwater Twister is a fun alpine coaster set in a beautiful location that could be great despite its short layout, but is sadly marred by excessive auto braking. However, the view from the top is beautiful and definitely worth it.
