The Book of Ikare

The Book of Ikare

Ikar's TomeThe Flight of Ikaros) is a roller coaster Asterix Parkthemed around the ancient Greek myth of Icarus and his ultimate flight too close to the sun.

At Asterix Park, visitors can climb aboard a winged aircraft and follow in Icarus' footsteps, but without having to worry about burning their wings.

This coaster is from Zierer and is one of only a few examples of the Hornet model they built. It offers a “fun” experience, with the track consisting mostly of a spiral that descends from a large model sun at the top of the lift hill. It's also not smooth.

The pacing was rather odd, with the two-car train constantly speeding up and slowing down, almost irritatingly, and the mid-course braking was too harsh, stopping passengers in their seats several times.

Vol d'Icare was almost certainly supposed to be a family-friendly coaster, but it was rather dull and boring. The theme was clever, but the actual coaster experience was more frustrating than fun.
