Dutch theme parks Efteling Strong attendance and financial results reported for 2025. But are they too powerful?

The park announced today that by 2025, it will welcome 4.98 million individual visitors and 5.78 million visitors. This is an interesting data point and one I wish we could get from more parks. While it's nice to know the general entrances to the various parks, I've also long wondered just how many different people make these visits.

In a park with a large annual pass base, where people visit multiple times throughout the year, you would expect large gaps in overall visits and between different visitors. On the other hand, for a park where everyone is from out of town and only visits once, the number of visits and the number of unique visitors may be close to the same.

For example, I'd love to see these numbers for Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Florida, and I suspect they represent those two extremes.

Back in Efteling, the number of unique visitors to the park is important because local regulations limit the number of people allowed into the park in a year. Efteling is facing this ceiling.

“Although Efteling is subject to a nature license that limits us to a maximum of five million unique visitors per year, we have always stayed within this limit,” said CEO Fons Jurgens. “Of course, we want to welcome as many visitors as possible to Efteling World again in 2026, while complying with the regulations. Above all, we hope to be able to secure a new license.”

For a park facing a 5 million visitor cap, a shortfall of just 20,000 visitors is not that big of a gap. It was just a day with slightly above average attendance. Efteling has won the Theme Park Industry Insider Award for World's Best Theme Park. It’s a destination that has earned the attention and respect of its fans.

Last year Efteling opened the Efteling Grand Hotel, a 140-room hotel located at the entrance to the park. This year, the park will launch a new family ride next to Baron 1989 and is redesigning the Raveleijn show and area, which is expected to debut this winter.

In 2025, Efteling's operating income was 347 million euros and net profit was 27.2 million euros.
