Humanized design? What exactly is humanized design? I remember my friend Lisa Caruso Jowellmentioned this to me first. She said it was very complex and interesting. Hmm… fun, but nothing I need. Then the universe stepped in (as she often does). I met Kristi Sullivan, a human design professional and author of The ultimate guide to creating a soul-aligned business. I continued the conversation, learned about my type, and then started reading. Your daughter loves a good book. Like water on a hot summer day, I can’t get enough of it. I read eight Human Design books in eight weeks. But I need more!
As much as I learned about health and healing travel, I wanted to share that knowledge to help others. I can clearly see how it will support my coaching clients and the curated training I do. What is so special about this mysterious human design? It focuses on you as a unique individual, and (like Inspired Journey Consulting) it encourages you to shine.
What exactly is human design?
First, I'll give you a confusing technical description. It is a science based on Eastern and Western Astrology, the Chinese I Ching, the Kabbalah Tree of Life, the Hindu Chakra System and Quantum Physics. When I first read this I thought: “Please don't make me do any math.” Now here's the vague description: Tools for human understanding and self-knowledge.
If you're like my husband, these definitions may stop you from reading. Please stay with me. The IJC’s definition of humanized design is: A detailed exploration of who you really want to be, the conditions that change who you are that may make you feel stuck, and a way to escape the noise in your head and tap into your intuitive truth. The process begins with knowing your date, time and place of birth. Then, thanks to a super smart quantum physicist and computer technology, a program was created in which a non-technical person like me could plot the graph. This is where the fun begins.
Tell me why I care and keep it simple

There are three key components to explore at the beginning of your human design journey: Genres, Strategies and Authority. Type is the role you play in this life. Strategy is how you interact with opportunities. Authority is how you make decisions.
As the “Travel Can Cure” community knows, anxiety tends to show up for me on a regular basis. Not as often as before, but more than once. The more I learned about Human Design, the fewer visits I received. I gradually developed a calm attitude.
Let me give you an example. Customer contracts ended earlier than expected and business was moderate. The Jackie of six months ago would be hyperventilating in a corner and staying up all night thinking about solutions. She would do, do, do 12-15 hours a day without taking a day off. Beat yourself up and believe that nothing you do is enough.
three gifts
Once I understood who I was supposed to be through the Human Design Map, everything changed. Am I suddenly a millionaire? not yet. But three things changed me.
- Confident in my strengths
- Calmly follow the flow of life
- trust my intuition
The past three years have been an interesting journey of self-exploration as a solopreneur. It took a while, but I finally learned not only what I do best, but how to communicate it and how I work best. However, when I describe it, I feel a bit like a diva. When people hire me, who am I to tell them how I work best? Then I learned that I was a projector, a human design archetype, here to provide wisdom and guidance. Lightbulb moment! A few weeks ago, one of my clients just called me a “wisdom giver.” Projectors require rest throughout the day and are not suitable for busy work. So maybe I'm not redundant after all? The jury is still out on this one…

As a projector, my strategy is to wait for an invitation. Now this is getting weirder and weirder. As I was writing chapters for this book in March, I was reflecting on how I was recruited to do much of the work. Thinking about the positions I've been in where I didn't receive an invitation, the results were terrible. Isn’t this an interesting shift in how I do business? It started turning my creative wheels.
Eventually I learned that I have emotional authority, which means I need to navigate my own emotional waves when making big decisions. Up to 24 hours. When I don't follow this and go in a direction that doesn't feel right, the experience becomes unstable. Been there too many times…a strong reminder to tap into my intuition and trust it. Plus, it's a cool new approach.
