The world-famous caramel cheese is named after the city in the heart of the Netherlands green space. Imagine the city is as delicious as cheese. I'm so happy to share the highlights of my Dutch Cheese Trip in the city and cheese farm. So keep reading and discovering that caramel is the ultimate food and cultural journey.
This city Guda Located in the Netherlands Province of the southern Netherlands. It is named after the ancient Wei River around it. The city is known for its Gouda cheese traded on its market square. In addition, Gouda has Stroopwafels, Grachten or Canal, Smoking Pipe and its 15Th Century Town Hall. Initially, it was a 13-year-old swampTh century. Later, a canal was built and its estuary became a port.
One day, I took a walk to Daguda and explored the main highlights of this historic city. The old town is compact and looking eastward, you can see popular historic landmarks in just one day. Also, I enjoyed the tour at Hoogerwaard, a nearby cheese farm. Here, visitors can taste the famous Mexican hemp and learn about its production.
Market Square
Market Square is the ideal place to start a city tour. The famous Gouda cheese market tradition continues during the summer Thursday morning. Between Stadhuis and de Waag, farmers and businessmen negotiate a large number of gudas. Usually, cheese is made with big yellow orange cheese wheels.
The iconic old town hall is located in the center of this sprawling square. Opposite it is Waag (Weighing House) and the Cheese Museum. In addition, many restaurants, cafes and shops surround the square.
Guda Town Hall Or Stadhuis
Built in 1450 Guda Town Hall It is one of the oldest Gothic secular buildings in the Netherlands. Initially, it was cut and later turned into a huge square. The front facade shows dramatic spire and arched windows. The stone statues represent important Dutch people. At night, the buildings are illuminated in various colors. Sometimes it can even perform light shows.
Traditionally, a guilty case goes to the left stairs after a court case to reach the scaffolding. Innocent stairs use the correct stairs. On the side of Stadhuis is Carillon. Its puppet drama featured Floris V Count Floris V left his castle in 1272 to award Gouda City Charter. Carillon once a second every hour. In addition, the interior is open from Tuesday to Sunday. Today, its main function is the wedding settings.
waag (weighing house)
The old town hall built in 1667, waag Used to weigh cheese for taxation. This historic building is now a museum to learn about Guda and its famous cheese. Additionally, they offer cheese tasting as well as wine pairing options.
Grote or St. Jans Kerk
(Great or St. John's Church)
Just a 5-minute walk from the Market Square, Gothic Gothic St. John's Church. This is the longest church extending 123 meters in the Netherlands. Additionally, it is known for its 72 stained glass windows. The church was dedicated to John the Baptist, John the patron saint of Guda. It was built during the 15th periodTh and 16Th Centuries.
The stained glass windows of the church are the most important collection in the Netherlands. The window consists of 2 layers, each frame contains a unique description. Notable windows include the baptism of Jesus and the Last Supper. Tickets are available Monday to Saturday. However, the only way to watch the interior on Sunday is to attend the service.
Guda Canal and lock
The narrow canal surrounds the old town of Goda. These tranquil waterways provide an interesting view of the connection between caramel and water. The scenic canal is lined with trees and Dutch architecture with charming bridges. Gouda offers many ways to enjoy the canal, such as kayaking, boat tours or canal walking.
Just east of Gouda, Dutch LJSSEL (River) Waaiersluis (Waaier Locks). Its fan lock is the first lock to be used in the waterway.
Museum Gouda
(Guda Museum Port)
this Guda Museum Port It is a small port with historic ships. It provided berths for 20 preserved Dutch ships in the early 1900s. On the dock, the board provides information on the design and history of each ship.
Stroopwafel bakery in Berg

Gouda is famous for its deliciousness Stroopwafel. Only a 5-minute walk from Market Square Berg's Bakery. Here they set their warm and slimy stroopwafel apart. These are more delicious than the cold, packaged stuff you buy in the store.
Stroopwafel's wafer is made of hard dough pressed with hot waffle iron. The filling made of brown sugar, syrup, butter and cinnamon seeped between the two wafers. As the syrup cools, thin waffles stick together. If you have sweets, you won't miss the best Stroopwafel of your life. Berger's bakery offers indoor and outdoor seating. More importantly, they offer syrup waffle workshops.
Hoogerwaard Cheese Farm
My trip includes stopping Hoogerwaard Cheese Farm. This 17Th Century Cheese Farm in Krimpenerwaard is located near Gouda. They produce traditional glue cheeses made from raw milk.
The trip included taste test cheese from a few months old to five years old. Most cheeses in the store are younger cheeses because they cost less storage. However, older cheeses have a bolder flavor that can be distinguished from younger ones.
Our guide explains cheese production and utilization equipment. In addition, we had to see the farm animals and see a small cheese museum. Of course, they have a shop with all kinds of caramel cheeses on it.
