Expedia and IHG map out next steps for artificial intelligence

What’s next for the online travel giant with its hodgepodge of artificial intelligence? Expedia Group Managing Director Angela Vega said at the Dreamforce conference late Wednesday afternoon that technology needs to be made smarter and more relevant.

Vega laid out the priorities in a panel discussion with Beth Burkett, director of CRM at IHG Hotels and Resorts.

“I'm excited to see, especially as we start thinking about contextualizing collaboration and people being more willing to provide information to get better outcomes, how do we leverage that,” she said.

“Recommendations need to be based not only on the products I’ve seen, but also on the outcomes I want from my trip,” Vega said. “So I think this is the next level.”

As an example, she brought up the scenario of four adults booking a trip to Cancun and how this would not be an appropriate time to recommend a visit to a children's museum. Likewise, for a romantic getaway or girly fling
