A new family ride has opened in Efteling.

Dutch theme parks announced today HogsmeadeIts new drop tower ride will open on May 1. Hoogsmead will share the theme and backstory with the Baron 1898 coaster next door and will offer three 12-meter-high roller coasters [39 foot] Each tower can carry 10 passengers.

The background story is Hoogmode Tower [“Arrogance” in Dutch] It’s the chimney of the smelting plant next to Baron Gustave Humaud’s gold mine, the Baron’s 1898 roller coaster. Riders on the drop tower will be sent to clear the chimney. The rider will spin around the tower but will be stopped by the crying woman [the Big Bad on Baron 1898]he will snap the cable, sending the rider falling six meters [20 feet] into mist and smoke.

Each tower has its own 1.5 minute ride sequence. Efteling said Hooghmoed can accommodate 600 guests per hour. The minimum height for riding is 90 cm [35 inches]. Each tower has seats designed for guests with disabilities, but guests will need to be transferred from a wheelchair to ride.
