DGCA Review Discovers Security Flaws in Major Airports in India: Travel Weekly

one Review by the Ministry of Civil Aviation of India A series of safety failures have been identified for airport fleets and airlines at Mumbai and New Delhi airports.

In a review, a team led by the National Civil Aviation Administration (DGCA) monitored ground activities and aircraft movements to check for compliance with regulatory requirements and identify weak areas that require improvement, the agency said in a notice.

DGCA explained that the review covers flight operations, airworthiness, ramp safety, air traffic control, communications, pre-public medical assessments, and navigation and surveillance systems.

DGCA does not refer to airlines or other entities by name. But the agency did notice a specific type of failure. For example, the audit team saw multiple reports of aircraft defects, indicating that aircraft monitoring and corrective actions were ineffective. The monitor also observed that the maintenance work sequence was not followed and that safety precautions were insufficient during the maintenance process.

At an airport, the centerline runway markers disappeared.

In another case, the aircraft simulator was found to not match the aircraft configuration.

In another detailed failure, domestic flights must be cancelled due to wear of tires.

“All findings observed during surveillance have been communicated to the operators concerned to take the necessary corrective action within 7 days,” DGCA said. “This comprehensive surveillance process will continue in the future to detect hazards in the system.”
