A slow bubbling slow cooker is one of our favorite cold weather rituals and a great way to slow down, reset, and make your space feel extra inviting. That's why it also makes a great DIY gift! Simply bundle dried orange slices and whole spices, add them to a small mason jar, add a label and some twine and you're done.

What is a saucepan?

Simmer pot is exactly what it sounds like. You put the water and aromatic ingredients in a small pot, bring everything to a slow boil, and let the steam carry the scent into your home. It's a natural alternative to scented candles and air fresheners, and is infinitely customizable.

Production skills

  • You can buy dried oranges onlinebut they’re easy (and cheap!) to use at home in the oven or Dehydrator. we have a whole set Dried orange making tutorial here.
  • Keep an eye on your saucepan while it's on the stove and add more water as needed. Using the same batch of ingredients, you can keep it going all day long!

How to wrap it as a gift

Simmer pot kits make sweet, easy holiday gifts. Assembly:

  • Use small mason jars or hinged glass jars.
  • Layer dried orange slices, spices, and evergreen sprigs (I like mine pine or juniper!).
  • Attached is a small handwritten label with instructions: “Add contents to small pot, cover with water, and bring to simmer. Add more water as needed.”
  • Store jars in a cool, dry place. They can be kept for several months.
