Sunday update: Carnival Cruise Line sent the following update Sunday morning regarding the two-hour delay in embarkation:
“We are dealing with a system-related issue that is impacting our boarding operations and your boarding time will be delayed. Please arrive two hours later than your pre-selected terminal arrival appointment.
“We plan to have all passengers boarding by 4:30 p.m. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding. We will keep you updated if there are any changes.”
Updated Saturday at 3:00 p.m.: Carnival Cruise Line sent the following update to guests booked for sailings on Carnival Sunshine on February 7, 2026:
“Carnival Sunshine 02/07/2026 (now departing 02/08/2026): Carnival Sunshine is expected to arrive in Norfolk tomorrow morning, Sunday, February 8. Please see your email for full details and revised embarkation plans.
“Please check in with your original terminal arrival appointment. You must arrive at the cruise terminal by 3:00 PM. We appreciate your patience and understanding. See you soon!”
original: A Carnival cruise ship was unable to return to its home port today due to weather-related port closures.
Carnival Sunshine is scheduled to return to Norfolk, Virginia, this morning, concluding a six-night Bahamas cruise.
The port is closed due to weather conditions and ships will not be able to return until tomorrow. The eight-night sailing on February 7, 2026 will be shortened by one day.
Carnival Cruise Line is asking guests booked for today's sailing not to arrive at the cruise terminal until they receive the cruise line's revised embarkation schedule.
Carnival Cruise Line’s latest sailing updates are as follows:
“Due to unfavorable weather, the Port of Norfolk will be closed on Saturday 7th February and the ship's return time for the current voyage will be delayed. We expect to arrive on Sunday 8th February, thus shortening your sailing time.
“Please do not travel to the cruise terminal until you receive our final operational update and revised embarkation schedule.
“We will be back in contact by 3:00pm ET on Saturday, February 7th. Please see your email for more details. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
Cruise ship guests can sign up for text message updates by texting CCL5 to 278473 (CRUISE). They should also receive email updates directly from Carnival.
Carnival says they expect to provide the next update by 3:00 pm today.
The eight-day voyage, scheduled for February 7, was scheduled to include stops at Half Moon Island, Grand Turk Island and Amber Bay for four sea days.
