Cape Kidnappers and Gannet Colony Background
This stunning headland is a headland on Hawke's Bay, 20 kilometers (12 m) southeast of Napier. Day trips will take you here from Clifton or Napier. Additionally, the headland was named after an attempt by local Maori to kidnap Captain Cook's crew in the 18th century. However, through gunfire and cannon, they managed to bring the crew back. However, the name of the cape still commemorates it today. The cliffs and beaches around Cape Kidnappers are beautiful and the views are breathtaking.
Kidnapper's Corner Sea Cliff is also home to the largest accessible facility in the world Gannet habitat. This is the breeding ground for 3,000 pairs of Australian gannets. Tours are available from September to April. This large seabird belongs to the family Boobidae and Gannetidae, Suliidae. In addition, they are beautiful birds, mostly white in color with black wingtips, yellow heads, blue-gray beaks, and blue-rimmed eyes. The mate lays one pale blue egg each year.

“Decorative Arts Capital of the World”
As an acupuncturist at sea, I asked one of the shore excursion consultants on the ship. What are the best places to visit in Napier? I remember firmly saying here, “Don't miss Cape Kidnappers and the gannet colony.” So glad I took her advice and spent one of the best days of my life here.
This is a truly stunning and breathtaking tour of scenery and wildlife. I started my trip in Napier. napier It is a unique coastal city known as ” Decorative Arts Capital of the World and beautiful beaches. Furthermore, after the 1931 earthquake, the city was rebuilt in the Art Deco style, leaving behind idyllic remains of that era. It is also a large tourist center and cruise ship port of call. This is where my journey begins Cape Kidnappers Gannet Safari.
My Cape Kidnapper Gannet Safari
The drive there is picturesque and stops along the dramatic cliffside scenery. Additionally, the light-colored rocks on the sea cliffs along New Zealand's turquoise waters make for stunning photos and scenery. The gannet colony is located on top of a large cliff overlooking Cape Kidnappers and Hawke's Bay. Additionally, during the safari we were able to walk among the gannets on the cliff tops. They seemed to have gotten used to being around people and carried on with their lives as if we weren't even there.
I was completely mesmerized by the thousands of beautiful birds all around me. Some cling to the rocks with their mates, while others fly in circles over the rocks. Overall, it was the closest experience I've ever had to a bird. I have to remind myself that I don’t have wings on a high, windy cliff. I found it interesting that the color of the rocks blended in with the birds, almost hiding them.
