California Scream Vertical Loop
California Screamin' was the original name of the roller coaster, which was later renamed the Incredicoaster Disney California Adventure.
“California Scream” is located in the Paradise Pier area of the theme park and is one of the attractions on the theme park's opening day.
It's built to look like a traditional wooden roller coaster to fit in with the overall Paradise Pier old-school beach boardwalk theme, although the theme somewhat masks the fact that it's a more modern ride.
Screamin' is a steel coaster built by California-based Intamin that uses a LIM launch section to power the train to a top speed of 55 mph instead of a slow crawl up a lift hill. It features a custom dual front and rear layout design to meet Disney's requirements. Similar to Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, the train also comes with an on-board soundtrack.
Midway is a vertical loop (making it the only coaster at Disney California Resort with an inversion feature). This, coupled with the placement of tubes around several track sections to muffle rider screams so as not to disturb the “peace” (ahem) of the surrounding neighborhoods of Anaheim, made the ride visually distinctive and one of California Adventure's main early icons.
The California Scream looks more intense and intimidating than it actually is, providing a surprisingly long ride of fun for families and visitors heading to Paradise Pier, while maintaining fast and efficient throughput.
