Amidst the hustle and bustle of Toronto's fashion district and the sheer scale of the adjacent urban megaproject, The Well, a dreamy oasis has been carved out in time. The city's luxury and wellness seekers have a new sophisticated sanctuary with the arrival of AIRE, the highly regarded Spanish spa experience brand. This opening marks AIRE's first branch in Canada and its tenth global branch following successful openings in cities such as New York, Chicago, London and Barcelona.

This strategic choice places Toronto among the ranks of high-end experiential wellness destinations and demonstrates the brand’s confidence in the city’s ability to sustain one of the most unique luxury offerings in the world. With the opening of facilities such as Other and health houseToronto’s modern wellness scene has transformed Committed to community-centered, high-tech and elemental restoration in recent years, advocating for contrast therapies and breath work.

However, compared to the community-focused energy of Toronto wellness spots like Othership, AIRE Ancient Baths is more about quiet candlelit spa treatments and personal contemplation (and inevitably comes with a higher price tag). Having said that, it's natural to assume that amidst the silent steam and chilly dips, some quiet connections can still be made.

A clever transformation of a legacy

Continuing the brand's tradition of transforming the city's historic buildings, AIRE Toronto is housed in a beautifully restored 1912 Edwardian classic building, a heritage site that once housed Copp Clark Publishing Company. While it may be nestled in the heart of Toronto's bustle, the space itself is quietly tucked away from the street, behind the building's original exterior.

“What makes AIRE unique is that the timeless ritual of bathing is recreated in a restored historic building,” said Amadeo Serra, CEO of AIRE Ancient Baths. “These places have a soul, they tell stories. When you float in a candlelit bath in a century-old space, time slows down, the mind quiets, and you feel like you're part of something greater.”

The new facility is ambitious at approximately 23,000 square feet, making it one of the largest properties in the AIRE collection. The moody design features exposed brick and wooden beams, with a focus on silence, stillness and candlelight, creating an underground atmosphere far removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. Architectural respect for the original structure, combined with the sensory design of the bathing spaces, emphasizes the commitment to true luxury rather than mere luxury.

Rooted in ancient traditions

At the heart of the AIRE experience is Thermal Cycle, an immersive journey rooted in the ancient bathing rituals of Roman, Greek and Ottoman civilizations. Guests are guided through a series of thermal baths of varying temperatures at their own pace, guided by candlelight, silence and the sound of water.

Elements include:

  • Tepid bath (tepid bath): Prepare the body for further relaxation.
  • Caldarium (hot bath): A thermal sanctuary that soothes muscles and joints.
  • Sauna (dry sauna): A traditional dry heat experience that promotes detoxification and deep muscle relaxation with intense, gentle warmth.
  • Frigidarium (cold bath): Vibrant diving stimulates blood circulation and provides contrast therapy.
  • Steam: Aromatherapy steam room.
  • Balneum (Thousand Jet Baths): The specialized warm bath features powerful and soothing pressurized jets designed to deliver an intense, targeted hydromassage for ultimate muscle relief.
  • Flotalim: Highly concentrated salt bath designed for effortless floating and deep sensory separation.
  • Palestra: A unique open-air bath unique to Toronto that offers the experience of immersing yourself under the Toronto sky.
  • Laconicum (pool/lounge area): A dry heat room or dedicated seating area promotes perspiration and provides a peaceful space for passive relaxation during a heat soak.

In addition to the track, AIRE offers a carefully curated ritual menu and features 12 massage rooms and two warm marble beds. Notable services include signature massages for singles and couples and the famous signature wine bath experience, where the entire body is immersed in the antioxidants of Spanish Ribera del Duero red grapes. Followed by cranial therapy, body massage and Matarromera wine and cheese tasting (CAD $1,560 per couple).

To mark its Canadian debut, AIRE is launching an experience only available in Toronto: the Signature Boreal Forest Experience. This 150-minute ceremony is inspired by the purity and tranquility of Canada's northern landscape. It includes a guided heat circuit rooted in contrast therapy, a 15-minute Canadian pink salt exfoliation on warm marble, a 60-minute jade hot stone cedar oil massage, a restorative scalp massage and sparkling wine, chocolate and forest berries to complete the ritual.

this Toronto AIRE Ancient Baths More than just a place to relax; it is sure to become an important high-quality destination for high-end travelers (with hotels such as Nobu and the Ritz-Carlton Toronto nearby) and discerning locals looking for a truly rejuvenating luxury experience without leaving the city.
