Between 2014 and 2024, Accor increased its number of airport hotels in the Pacific by 144% (22 airport hotels in 2024 compared to 9 in 2014).
Accor has opened other major airport hotels in the Pacific region in the past year, following the opening of Novotel and ibis Styles Melbourne Airport.
Australia’s first airport “resort” opened last December following a $30 million upgrade and consolidation of the award-winning Novotel and Mercure Darwin Airport hotels by the Airport Development Group (ADG). The redesigned resort added a 61-metre swimming pool, new pool villas, additional food and beverage outlets, an integrated arrival and welcome area, extensive Aboriginal artwork and murals and an Aboriginal training academy.
In New Zealand, Accor recently added a new Pullman hotel at Auckland Airport to complement its existing Novotel and ibis hotels. Pullman Auckland Airport Te Arikinui is the first five-star hotel to open in the Auckland Airport precinct, just 100 metres from the main entrance of the International Terminal.

Accor currently operates 22 airport hotels in the Pacific region and is the largest airport hotel operator in the region.
Chief Operating Officer, Accor Pacific Region Prevention and assessment, Adrian Williams, said the expansion of the group’s airport hotel network highlights the development of the airport area into a major commercial and service centre. “Airport hotels are no longer just accommodation for transit passengers, but are the engines of new integrated mixed-use developments that have evolved into complexes that integrate business, retail, industrial and tourism activities.” Mr Williams said.
“The airport area is transforming into a micro-city with its own identity, with its own demand drivers.
“Novotel and ibis Styles Melbourne Airport will be great examples of hotels meeting this demand by offering more than just a place to stay overnight. In particular, we expect these hotels to become very popular conference, event, incentive and meeting locations, benefiting from the wide range of leisure facilities in the area.
“The reasons to choose an airport hotel are growing exponentially, especially in Melbourne, with a lack of integrated transport options to the terminals, so staying overnight at one of our hotels to relax and prepare for a major overseas trip is one of the best investments a traveller can make. A stress-free start to a long international journey is great for your health.”
