Mendocino, California——Treborn Hotels & Resorts Announced the opening of Hill House in Trailborn Mendocino, its first West Coast property and debut in Northern California.
Hill House is the first of two hotels under Trailborn Mendocino, an 89-room destination that will be completed when The Mendocino Hotel reopens in early 2027 after extensive renovations. Together, the two properties will form a community-focused campus.

Trailborn Mendocino’s second phase, The Mendocino Hotel, will open in early 2027, offering more guest rooms, a new restaurant and refreshed public spaces.

The 44-room hotel has undergone a complete transformation of the former Hill House Inn, retaining the character of the local landmark while introducing redesigned rooms, enhanced facilities and gathering spaces for the local community and visiting guests. The property overlooks Mendocino Village and offers access to coastal bluffs, redwood forests and nearby wine country.
The project was designed in partnership with HBA San Francisco. Original architectural elements – including millwork, the original bar and main staircase – have been retained and reinterpreted, while updated interiors, refreshed landscaping and public spaces respect the hotel’s history. Public spaces are centered around a fireplace lounge, garden-facing seating and indoor-outdoor circulation designed to connect. Food and drink further highlight the area’s character. Hill House Wine & Grocer is a hub for local food, wine and picnics, while Pizza Standard Time offers wood-fired pizza, seasonal dishes, cocktails and desserts to guests and the community.
Hill House also introduces one of Mendocino's largest and most versatile event venues, hosting weddings, retreats, corporate offsites, wellness programs and community celebrations in its indoor and outdoor spaces.
Programming centers on the culture and landscape of Mendocino, from live music and wine tastings to fireside moments, guided adventures and specialty picnics inspired by the region’s coastal beauty. Outside the hotel, guests can kayak and explore sea caves, horseback ride along the shoreline, explore nearby wineries, explore ancient redwood forests, or participate in wellness experiences that include forest bathing and guided movement exercises.
