Exclusive: Inside the luxurious and stylish Singapore EDITION

When Marriott's ultra-cool, luxurious EDITION hotel brand makes its long-awaited debut in Southeast Asia in late 2023, Singapore EDITION Since its inception, it has been one of the best properties in the city.

Curated and conceived by the legendary Ian Schrager in collaboration with interior design firm Cap Atelier, this 204-room hotel is located at the western end of Singapore's iconic Upper Orchard Road. To find out what makes this hotel stand out, Wayfarer's James Wilkinson Chat with the General Manager of the Singapore EDITION Hotel, Robert Pattenden.

Robert, The Singapore EDITION is popular on many levels, from the location to the lobby, gardens, design, pool, rooms and the food and beverages on offer. Tell us some of your favorite things about the hotel.

What I find most striking about this property is how it changes over time. In the morning, natural light floods into the greenhouse, illuminating the fern spheres suspended from the ceiling. It’s a space that quietly invites you in, whether you’re reading, working, or chatting with someone.

The music is original and curated exclusively for the Singapore EDITION, setting a tone that feels thoughtful rather than plug-and-play.

As the afternoon changed, so did the atmosphere. The mood lights come on, the pace picks up, and the energy in the lobby bar comes to life. The evening took shape naturally as guests gathered around our custom rose-colored pool table, cocktails in hand. By nightfall, everything had completely changed.

I think what the Singapore EDITION does best is create a sense of place that has something for everyone. Whether you're here on business, vacation, or just looking for a place to reconnect. This space gets the job done before you know it.

Please tell us about the stylish rooms and suites on offer.

Our rooms and suites are designed with a clear philosophy in mind: a minimalist aesthetic, yet every detail has been carefully considered. The color palette is calming, with warm neutrals, natural woods, and soft whites.

The bathrooms are spacious, each with separate tub and shower areas and double sink vanities. It is a room that does not reveal itself but gives a sense of tranquility.

We are particularly considerate of families. Our double rooms feature queen-size beds and can comfortably accommodate up to four guests, which is quite rare in the market.

For families who want more space, our Cuscaden Suites offer separate living areas with connecting doors to a double room configuration, giving parents their own retreat space while keeping everyone close. This is a great setup for multi-generational travel.

Robert, please tell us about the delicious food and drinks available here, it is the best in Singapore.

I'm most proud of the breadth and specialty of our food and beverage offerings. I sincerely believe it is one of the strongest venues in Singapore, each with its own unique character.

In our signature restaurant, we host a monthly Disco Brunch, a fitting celebration that combines the energy of a disco with a live grill station serving different cuisines: Asian, Mexican, Spanish and more.

Every Sunday, we also serve a Sunday Roast, which has become a gathering place for family and friends to share dishes, bringing Singapore's Garden City spirit indoors.

The heart of the hotel features a lobby bar, a pink backlit bar, a custom rose-colored pool table, and our Thursday ICONS event on the last Thursday of each month, where we bring local DJs together with local creatives, visual artists, photographers, musicians and even performing artists. This is our way of keeping the hotel connected to Singapore’s creative community.

Located on the ninth floor, The ROOF is a hidden gem. Guests often stumble upon it and never want to leave, and the views of Orchard Road and the sunset make for a very special evening.

The Punch Room is one of our rare spirits bars with dark blue tones and a speakeasy feel. It opens at 8pm and attracts crowds who want to relax after dinner. Once a month we bring live entertainment, upbeat jazz or slow hip hop DJs, depending on the mood.

For those who enjoy late nights, the Wonder Room is open every Friday from 9pm to 2am, offering DJ sets and disco beats, as well as champagne hour to get the night started in style.

Tying it all together are social days, held every Monday to Wednesday, offering signature cocktails and selected wines at special prices throughout the day. This is our way of giving the week a reason to look forward to.

What’s your unknown factor at the Singapore EDITION?

The Singapore EDITION is at your service from the moment you enter the driveway. The first thing you notice is the signature Le Labo scent, created exclusively for EDITION.

Then the door opens and you step into a space filled with lush greenery and natural light that feels less like a hotel lobby and more like walking into someone's thoughtfully designed home.

There is something hidden at every turn, a piece of art, a sculpture, an unexpected moment of joy. There's always a warm smile from one of our colleagues, reminding you that there are real people behind everything you experience here.

At the end of the day, what we really care about is feeling. How our guests feel upon arrival, during their stay and after they leave.

This is something that no amount of hardware or product specs can make. It comes from within; from the culture we build and the people who carry it every day.

How important is loyalty, especially given Bonvoy’s global popularity?

Loyalty is at the heart of everything we do. None of this would exist without our members, and we never take it for granted.

My advice to anyone is to have a Marriott Bonvoy account. Whether you stay at our hotel or dine at one of our restaurants, you'll earn points for every experience. Marriott International has more than 9,300 hotels around the world, and the opportunity to redeem them is extraordinary.

A free night at a hotel you've always dreamed of visiting is a meaningful reward and more attainable than people often realize.

What are some of your favorite things to do locally?

For those who like to start their day with some fresh air, an early morning jog or walk to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Singapore Botanic Gardens is a great option. There is a lovely cafe on site and walking back to the hotel is always a pleasant feeling.

If you happen to be visiting during the Christmas period, a walk along Orchard Road is also a great option. The entire 3.1 kilometer stretch is covered in lights and festive decorations, a display that never fails to impress, even to those who have seen it before.
