Actor and singer Carlos Bote calls Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez a “monkey.” This was at a rally in Madrid in support of Maria Corina Machado. He later apologized, no doubt because right-wing campaign pundits raised the fact to him that it would undermine Machado's false claims to represent the majority of Venezuelans. But the way he yelled “monkey” gave away Bout's true colors.

It’s not just Bout. Machado's followers screamed “money out” in unison. It's a familiar feeling. Opponents of Chavez in Venezuela used the same language, and even worse, during Chavez's first year in power, making clear their class and ethnic origins. Then American propaganda advisers told them to stop doing it because they knew full well that they couldn't use this kind of language and expect to win an election at the same time. History repeats itself. It never hides the truth.
