Polk shared how guest behavior played a significant role in operational decisions during the park's first year, influencing everything from entertainment and seasonal offerings to guest services and nighttime experiences.
Epic Universe operations are still being adjusted
Polk said one of the biggest lessons from Epic Universe's first year was understanding the different ways guests naturally experience the park throughout the day. This includes how visitors are distributed across the portal, how long they spend at Paradise Park in the evening, and how holidaymakers and international visitors interact with the resort in different ways. That's before annual pass holders are fully onboarded.
Polk said the way the parks are run continues to evolve as Universal studies these models.
“We don’t want to exceed our capabilities,” Polk said when discussing the balance between attendance and maintaining a great guest experience.
He also noted that later opening hours will be important as guests can spend more time enjoying the ambience, lighting, entertainment and nighttime energy throughout the Garden. I asked Polk about some of the things that surprised him that first year, and he responded with genuine enthusiasm about the positive response from guests and fans to the lights and synchronized LED lights throughout Paradise Park. We theme park fans are a detail-rich bunch.
Accessible guest service locations
Polk also discussed several operational details intentionally built into Epic Universe to help guests receive assistance more naturally throughout the day.
These include small, concierge-style guest service locations throughout the park that allow guests to resolve issues or ask questions without having to return to the main entrance. This is a modern approach to distributing services closer to where guests are.
other operating systems, including photo verification technology Universal spent the first year of the park studying guest movement and traffic patterns and continually evolving the park admission process.
Recreational and seasonal products may continue to grow
Polk hinted that Epic Universe's entertainment footprint may continue to expand as the park enters its second year. He singled out the popularity of the world-wide performers and atmospheric entertainment throughout the park, especially in dark universe and Berk Island.
An example of what guests have embraced is Captain CocoToday marks Paradise Park's one-year anniversary, and the adventurous Paradise Park character gets to interact with visitors. land. Polk also noted that guests' spontaneous reactions to characters and performers like Igor and Hiccup reinforced the importance of live entertainment as part of the overall epic universe atmosphere.
“I love all the performers in the world,” Polk said, adding that more live entertainment could eventually be part of the park's future development.
Polk also suggested that Universal Pictures may continue to expand The festive atmosphere of the epic universe Over time, include additional decorations and seasonal offerings.

Food and beverages will also likely continue to change seasonally as Universal evaluates guest response to various experiences around the parks. Polk noted in particular that the popular mac and cheese cone from Burke Island will continue to have special seasonal flavors year-round.
Small details continue to influence guest reactions
Beyond operations and entertainment, Polk emphasized that some of the strongest guest reactions come from environmental details that many visitors may not realize at first.
He referenced the design work throughout the park, including the intricate landscaping and visual details surrounding the Dark Universe building. “These little moments are how guests react,” Polk said.
Polk said these details help visitors develop a more personal connection with their surroundings, especially when they return to the park multiple times. As someone who loves theme parks, I couldn't agree more.
As Epic Universe enters its second year, Polk said continued evolution remains part of the park's long-term philosophy. “People are going to have a different experience every time they come to the park,” Polk said. “That's part of what makes it special.”
Polk said that one year later, Epic Universe is no longer just introducing guests to a new theme park, Universal is now actively shaping the future of the park around how guests use, explore and return to the park.
“We want to be responsive to what our guests are interested in,” Polk said. This is part of what makes theme parks such a unique form of entertainment. They are living, breathing creations, shaped over time by the people who experience them.
