Known for its lush rainforests, wildlife, volcanoes and beaches, costa rica has become one of the best destinations for family travel and multi-generational adventures.
Last year, Debbie Bowman and her daughter Amanda scoured the internet for inspiration for their first mother-daughter vacation together.

With the sheer number of destination options and packages available, it was difficult to decide.
It wasn't until Bowman, who also works as a travel consultant, joined G Adventures as an agent that their dream came true. To her surprise, she became the lucky winner of the event's grand prize: a nine-day trip for two to Costa Rica.
“When I won this trip, fate seemed to open a door for us because Costa Rica was actually at the top of Amanda's list of places she wanted to go with me,” Bowman said.
In November 2025, Bowman and her daughter began their journey Journey: Highlights of Costa Rica travel.

“She was right in front of me and she didn't even hesitate when I was about to step off the platform of the Tarzan swing.” Bowman recalled.
“Seeing her be so brave made me feel courageous too, and it was great and fun to do it together.”
Bowman said that by experiencing so many inspiring and unique travel moments by each other's side, she and her daughter made memories they will never forget.
Bowman said it's special to look back and not only be able to connect with her daughter, but also develop strong bonds with everyone else on the tour.
“You never know how a tour group will combine, but the small size of G Adventures tours really seems to help you make meaningful connections with other people,” she said, adding Chief Experience Officer (CEO) – who is clearly passionate about Costa Rica – also created this experience.
Bowman said their first mother-daughter trip was everything they had hoped for, adding that she would encourage other families to take the step like she and Amanda did.

“There is something special about traveling with grown children. It seems to me that a lot of stressful or worrying things are put aside when traveling, allowing people to simply enjoy the adventure together.” Bowman said.
While many families tend to travel together as a group, she says it's worth it to have one-on-one adventures in order to strengthen bonds and get to know family members more in different settings.
“It's so fun to see your child interact with other people. Amanda is older now, but it still makes me so proud to hear her interact with others in the group in such a positive and fun way,” Bowman said.
“When your adult children actually want to hang out with you, well, I think that's the best thing one could hope for. I'm just grateful to be able to have this adventure with my daughter.”
