Croatia Airlines has confirmed it has entered into a wet lease agreement with ETF Airways for an ATR72-600 turboprop aircraft, which was recently delivered to ACMI experts. The aircraft is tentatively scheduled to enter service on behalf of Croatia Airlines starting next Wednesday, although an earlier launch is still possible. The 70-seat aircraft carries the national airline's corporate logo in the form of a sticker. A wet lease is an arrangement in which a lessor provides an aircraft along with crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) to another carrier. The Croatian flag carrier has previously said it will have to wet-lease small regional aircraft to make up for the retirement of its Dash 8 turboprops as it transitions to an all-Airbus A220 fleet.
The ATR, currently registered as 9A-ATR, will initially be deployed on Croatia Airlines' domestic network and on flights from Zagreb to Sarajevo and Munich, from Osijek and Rijeka to Munich and between Dubrovnik and Rome. The nine-year-old aircraft took a ferry flight from Ho Chi Minh City on March 29 and arrived in the Croatian capital via Dhaka, Ahmedabad, Muscat and Hurghada. The company plans to conduct free test flights tomorrow on routes from Zagreb to Zadar and Pula. ETF Airways leased the turboprop aircraft from Singapore-based aircraft leasing company Avation for six years. The flight was previously operated by Taiwan's Mandarin Airlines.
Croatia Airlines has previously operated its own ATR aircraft. From 1993 to 2009, the airline operated ATR42s, later replaced by Dash 8s.
