sit in it Six Flags Magic Mountain Goliath is a world-class roller coaster series and one of the largest roller coasters in the world. Since its opening in February 2000, it has been the fastest and longest roller coaster among all full-loop roller coasters.
At 235 feet tall, it's squarely in the realm of super coasters. The layout is more interesting than some other supercars, which have endless airtime hills: the Goliath has those too, but also has some interesting swooping curves and a huge and notoriously intense spiral section.
There are some comfortable lumbar restraints on the train, but the train's speed is severely slowed down by braking mid-ride, which robs the train of any power and slows it to a crawl. The first part – including the first descent that eventually leads into the underground tunnel – is very fast.
It's a legacy of the “roller coaster wars” that raged at the turn of the century, when Six Flags Magic Mountain and Cedar Point were locked in a fierce rivalry for the most and most world-record-breaking roller coasters on the planet. Such was the advantage of that era, Goliath only held its record for a few precious weeks before The Millennium Power of Cedar Point With a 300-foot drop and a top speed of 93 mph, the rivalry finally collapsed in May 2000 when Six Flags merged with Cedar Fair in 2024, making future similar roller coaster wars far less likely in a world of tedious corporate consolidation.
Goliath is big, fast and fun. It may not offer the most playtime, nor is it the smoothest and best-paced, but for its size, it's a massive ride and an amazing experience.
