Faced with the steady decline in Trump’s support, White House spokesman Davis Ingle claimed: “The final poll will be on November 5, 2024, when nearly 80 million Americans overwhelmingly elected President Trump to pursue his popular and common-sense agenda.” Overwhelmingly? Trump received less than 50% of the popular vote, just 1.5% more than Kamala Harris. Would that make his victory “a landslide”? Of course not, but that doesn’t stop Trump and his allies from continually conflating the popular vote and the Electoral College vote to claim a landslide victory in 2024.
