Three Days in Cebu, Philippines: Sunshine, Smiles, and Island Magic

The base for this trip is Jpark Island Resort, located on the edge of Mactan Island, about 20 to 25 minutes from Cebu Airport. This is one of those places where you check in, get the welcome drink, and then immediately want to abandon you. suitcase Good for swimming. The water park is a highlight. I couldn't resist sliding down the waterslide, even though my first ride was a mild float rather than a thrill. There's also a slow-circulating subway ride that's the perfect place to switch into holiday mode.

I also visited Pororo Park which is technically designed for kids but I'm not ashamed to say I had a ball in the ball pit and slides. It's a great place for families and, honestly, for any adult who's still a big kid at heart. If you're feeling adventurous, the resort also offers activities such as parasailing, snorkeling, jet skiing and banana boat rides.

Day 1: Slides, sunshine and superb Cantonese

After settling in, I jumped right into the water park fun. Flying down the slide and floating in the sun will instantly turn on your vacation switch. I haven't even come close to exploring everything; there are so many great deals.

That night, I dressed up briefly and headed to Ching Hai, the resort’s Cantonese restaurant. Honestly? This was one of the best meals I've had in the Philippines, fresh, tasty and beautifully presented. Every dish was a winner, but more importantly, the warm, genuine hospitality left a mark. People here? Gracious, joyful and truly unforgettable.

Day Two: Cebu’s Rich History Revealed

The next day we started with a guided historical tour of Cebu City and I loved it. There's something special about standing where a major moment in history happened. The first stop is Fort San Pedro, originally built in 1565 from logs in just 11 days. This is a beautiful building that tells the story of Cebu’s Spanish colonial history.

Next is the Magellan's Cross, which is protected within a charming red-roofed pavilion and is believed to have been planted by Ferdinand Magellan himself in 1521. I also visited the Basilica of Santo Niño, which is the oldest Roman Catholic church in the country and has deep spiritual and cultural significance.

The most fascinating stop was an unassuming-looking building that contained the oldest outdated house in the Philippines, tucked away in what looked like an old warehouse. Inside, time stood still. I loved learning about traditional Filipino families, the Spanish influence, and how families once displayed wealth through carved wooden shawls and dresses.

At noon, I took a detour to the chocolate room. Meeting the chocolate queen Raquel and learning how cocoa is grown and prepared was a real highlight. I tried the traditional Filipino hot chocolate, which was rich, earthy, and surprisingly bitter at first. But by the second bite, I got it. It brings warmth and grounding in a way that coffee doesn't.

After the sun went down, I headed to Coral, one of the resort's beachfront restaurants, for dinner under the stars. I missed the sunset, but the cocktails were cold and the live music was relaxing, so what was the highlight? A traditional drinking battle and a grand shared feast on banana leaves. Mine was a more refined version, but the camaraderie and rich spirit were unforgettable.

Day Three: Island Hopping and Ocean Feast

No trip to Cebu is complete without taking to the water. On the last day, I participated in the island hopping tour organized by the resort. destination? Caohagan Island is a peaceful little paradise surrounded by crystal clear waters.

From the moment I arrived, it was obvious how much the local community cares about their island. It's spotless, welcoming and full of life.
