nourish your body

(January 28-30)

With its own butchery, bakery, distillery and an abundance of produce grown on site, The Newt knows how to enjoy a delicious meal. It can be seen that this food-focused itinerary is neither strict nor stingy, and guests enjoy the generosity of the land. David Rowley, head of efficient growing, takes you on a tour of the greenhouses and growing tunnels, teaching you how to grow for next year and how self-sufficiency can benefit your quality of life and the wider world.

Cole shared, “Getting an inside look at The Newt’s working landscape adds a unique dimension to the resort, from stepping into productive growing spaces that guests rarely see, to gaining a deeper understanding of the intrinsic connections between food, land and well-being.”

Nutrition expert Jasmine Helmsley's ingredients for a more mindful diet include Eastern philosophies and Western techniques. Cultjar, based at Warminster Farm, brings their fermentation, pickling and seasoning techniques to the table; The Newt’s food director Gelf Alderson will demonstrate the skills that earned him a green Michelin star, serving plant-based meals that include flavorings (salsa verde, chermoula, chimichurri, harissa) to enhance hardy winter vegetables. Cole said the experience will prove that “holistic health doesn't need to start and end in January.” “This is something we can carry with us for the rest of our lives.”

Highlights

– Tour Avalon Farm, Newt’s food production center, with David Rowley
– Fermentation and preservation workshop with Cultjar founder Peter Prescott
– Jasmine Helmsley Intimate Q&A on practical nutrition advice

mindfulness movement

(February 11-13)

Get the most out of your Lululemon Polka Dot Leggings—these two nights off allow you to take a break from active activities and get your blood pumping with breath-taking and other downtime. The retreat “provides space to slow down, reconnect with nature and regain balance,” Cole said.

Get your adrenaline pumping with Newt's Sports and Wellness Coach Chris Giles, who leads you into the estate's lake for an invigorating winter dip. The outlook may not be bright, but Giles believes “nature doesn't stop providing gifts when the weather changes.” Through simple exercise and quiet outdoor adventures, we realize how grounding and rejuvenating it can be. “

Athletics Smith Ambassador Amritpal Ghatora's group classes run through the most scenic parts of the property for maximum motivation. Newt's yoga instructor Loren Barclay will provide you with some serious twists, and her holistic classes also take mental clarity, breathing, and circulation into consideration. Lifestyle coach Aaron Collins-Thomas choreographs beautiful Qigong moves in the fresh air. Giles hopes guests will leave “understanding that exercise does not need to be strenuous or results-oriented to be effective…Gentle, mindful movement—especially when combined with breath, nature, and presence—can have a powerful impact on health.”

Highlights

– Breathing Courses and Sharp Cold Diving Courses with Chris Giles
– Take running classes with Amritpal Ghatora and debrief with his team to help hone your technique
– Yin yoga class using Loren Barclay’s “Flow” technique, focusing on floor-based poses that aid flexibility
– Alan Collins-Thomas’ Qigong classes that will help maintain posture and flexibility, increase energy, and reduce stress

find your balance

(March 11-13)

Feeling uncomfortable? This retreat will eliminate any distractions in your life with a powerful combination of deep breathing sessions with Airena founder Valentina Marzola (using her science-based and soul-based methods to intensely soothe the mind); Ayurvedic wisdom from salamander healer Sarah Stocker-Harding (who just returned from an educational sabbatical in India); and conversations with chef and food writer Gaz Oakley. Take a class to make kombucha together to tap into these intuitions.

Another aspect is Chris Giles' Thermal Wake-Up Call, which begins with hot and cold blasts of a sauna, followed by an invigorating soak. The purpose of the activity is to keep your body, brain and soul in balance. “By combining ancient wisdom with modern science, retreats provide practical tools that can build resilience, improve self-understanding and support well-being long after the retreat ends,” says Arthur Cole.

Highlights

– Music-led breathing classes led by Valentina Marzola of Airena, incorporating ancient principles and modern performance science
– Take an Ayurvedic wellness course with Sarah Stocker-Harding and learn about the “Three Pillars of Health”
– Kombucha making workshop with Gaz Oakley and the chance to join him for a three-course plant-based supper club at The Garden Café (additional fee of £65 per person)

No matter which vacation spot you choose, you're bound to get a seasonal boost and maybe even a new look—after all, this is a trip designed to be transformative. Arthur Cole firmly believes that “staying at the Newt Hotel allows you to slow down and appreciate the details and great things in life; see the world from a grain of sand [or] Appreciate the complexity of the snowdrops and remind yourself that we are part of nature. “So, check in and get out of there.
