Low-cost airline Wizz Air will open a base in Podgorica next year, launching 14 new routes in the process, including flights to Ljubljana. New destinations include Barcelona, Basel, Beauvais, Baden-Baden, Cologne, Hamburg, Rome-Fiumicino, Vilnius, Maastricht, Malmö, Poznan, Rzeszów, Ljubljana and Wroclaw. Wizz Air will compete directly with flagship airline Montenegro Airways on flights to Rome and Ljubljana. The new routes will join already year-round services to Budapest, Dortmund, Memmingen and Milan Malpensa, as well as seasonal services to Katowice, London Gatwick and Warsaw. The airline plans to have two Airbus A321neo aircraft in the city and launch several routes in late March, with a second batch in June.

Wizz Air is already the largest airline in Podgorica by available seat capacity and by 2025 the number of seats on the market will be just over 400,000. Its Podgorica flights are expected to carry around 309,000 passengers this year.
