The Immersive Wizard of the Wizard of Oz takes over the Strip: Travel Weekly

Dorothy, Toto and their friends land on field In the Hurricane of the Skill Wizard, in Las Vegas.

“The Wizard of Oz on the Sphere” adopts 21st century art technology, artificial intelligence, traditional visual effects and original photography to adapt the classic 1939 tunes to the largest screen imaginable.

“What you're going to see tonight is our most powerful example of experience storytelling,” Sphere Entertainment CEO James Dolan said at the premiere on August 28.

What will fans experience

The traditional theater environment looks approachable and familiar screens, please welcome guests. However, shortly after the opening ceremony honors, the film exploded to fill the Sphere's 160,000-square-foot LED display plane, which is wrapped around and around the audience. The howling of the tornado begins after the rendering of the original Judy Garland's “On the Rainbow”.

Apart from the painfully high-tech enhanced image, low-tech fans in the sphere produce strong winds and even stop in a storm. Vibration of the tactile seat adds special effects.

“From the beginning, our vision for the sphere was obvious: use cutting-edge technology to activate the senses – vision, sound, smell and touch. We still haven't figured out the taste.”

Throughout the 77-minute movie, fog, snow and fire enhance the on-screen action. Small paper leaves and spongy apples fell from above, and the unmanned flying monkeys fell from above. Just as the transition from black and white to lush spectacles of color from original films over 80 years ago is plagued by the transition from black and white to lush spectacles of color, Sphere audiences will be amazed by the size, color and vivid details of this version.

Movie purists may use artificial intelligence and other artistic options to convert a movie with an aspect ratio of 4:3 into a spectacle, with the scene filled with 16k screens of about three football fields. The original film is added with original material to the original landscape and the screen outside the screen – the sides in the original film is tightly framed. Some scenarios have been removed for shorter runtimes, and this decision is commercially meaningful for Sphere.

Sphere Studios has teamed up with Warner Bros. Discovery, Google and Magnopus to create a $80 million effort: “The Wizard of Oz in Sphere.”

Before and after the performance

The appearance of the Sphere and its programming on the atrium are specifically used in movies. Prior to the screening, the atrium had tan tones on the Kansas-themed space, which included a replica of Professor Marvel's caravan and other elements. After that, the atrium transforms into a brighter emerald city with holographic walls.
