

Our Basil Olive Oil Dipping sauce is a family favorite. It's easy to make and really enhance any meal. Soak with a crusty bread, pour over pasta, or drizzle over Caprese salad.


Similar to pesto, this dip is the perfect addition to family dinners and is very simple. It also doesn't include cheese or nuts, such as traditional pesto sauce, making it naturally vegetarian and appealing to everyone. You only need five ingredients, including plenty of fresh basil.

What do you need to do
You only need 5 simple ingredients to make this basil olive oil.


- Basil: One of the most points of this recipe. Basil plants and fresh basil leaves can be found in most grocery stores, which is the signature flavor and beautiful color that makes this dip.

- Crushed red pepper flakes: For subtle heat and flavor depth.
- Garlic, chopped: Garlic is a must-have for basil oil and seasonings, giving this dip a bite.
- Salt: Depend on your preferences.
How to make this basil oil dip sauce
Add about a quart of water to a large pot and bring to a boil. Add half a teaspoon of salt to boiling water and stir to dissolve. On the sides, add ice and cold water to a medium bowl.
Add basil to the water and add it for 15 seconds. At that time, the color should be full of vibrant green. Drain the basil immediately and jump into an ice bath to stop its further cooking.
Remove basil from the water. Gently squeeze the leaves to remove most of the water, then drain on a paper towel.
If it is still attached, remove the leaves from the stem. Peel and chop the garlic. Add basil leaves to the mixer with garlic, red pepper, ½ teaspoon of salt and oil.
Mix at medium speed, increase the speed until everything is crushed. Keep basil olive oil aside for at least an hour to bring the flavors together.
Enjoy your choice of crusty bread. If refrigerated, raise it to room temperature before serving. This basil olive oil is also delicious on pasta.


Tips and changes
- For a little irritation and clarity, you can add a small amount of lemon juice to brighten this sauce.
- Balsamic vinegar pairs well with this basil oil and can be used to add subtle sweetness and acidity.
- If you like, you can use black pepper instead of chopped red pepper flakes to add flavor.
- This basil oil drizzled on tomatoes or fresh mozzarella.


How to store basil olive oil dipping sauce
You can store this oil in an airtight glass container for up to one week. However, you should restore it to room temperature before serving.
