A&K is upgrading luxury safari lodges in Botswana and Uganda: Travel Weekly

A&K Travel Group says it will redevelop its safari-style luxury tourism properties in Botswana and Uganda in 2025, upgrading them and increasing their appeal.

Gorilla Forest Camp in Uganda is soon to become Gorilla Forest Lodge, offering unparalleled close encounters with mountain gorillas. Baines Lodge in Botswana is famous for its Okavango Delta adventure.

Both are part of A&K's Sanctuary Retreats subsidiary, which owns and operates 12 luxury safari camps and lodges in eastern and southern Africa and four river boats in Egypt. Both will reopen after renovations in mid-2025.

What was upgraded?

Gorilla Forest Camp is the only luxury lodge in the Bwindi Jungle. Each of its 10 suites has been significantly expanded and redesigned. Floor-to-ceiling windows will complement the spacious balcony-style deck. Design elements include clay exteriors, textured plaster walls, woven banana leaf ceilings and elongated framed vistas.

The lodge traces its roots to a 1985 meeting between Abercrombie & Kent founder Geoffrey Kent and the then President of Uganda, which resulted in a joint effort to create a sustainable tourism model that would bring gorillas and local bats together. Everyone in Wa benefited.

Located in the heart of Botswana's Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Baines' Lodge provides a retreat for those seeking an authentic safari experience on a private charter. Each of the six newly designed suites features extended private decks, star-shaped bathrooms and inviting daybeds.

Explore the Okavango Delta and its abundant wildlife in an open four-wheel drive vehicle. When water levels allow, guests can glide through the tranquil waterways on a traditional mokoro.
