Seabourn details entertainment lineup for Grand Africa cruises

Seabourn has announced its entertainment and Seabourn Conversation speaker lineup for its 90-day Africa Grand Cruise later this year Travels in Seaborn. The show will feature a host of new performances from the cast, 28 guest artistes and 12 renowned speakers.

As the ship sails along the African coast, passengers on board will experience a vibrant lineup of live music, lectures, talks, comedy sketches, variety shows and more. Passengers on this voyage will also be the first to experience Seabourn’s new “The Seabourn Six” entertainment concept, created exclusively for the cruise line by Belinda King Creative Productions.

Entertainment and guest performances

Shibang Sojie There will be 28 guest artists, ranging from world-renowned theatre actors to variety show comedians and classical musicians. Special guest artists include:

West End Star, Ricardo Alfonso: December 1-7, 2024

Ricardo is an exceptional singer who has performed in countless shows and workshops across West End theatres. Guests will spend an evening with this West End star, enjoying highlights, touching stories and classic songs from his career.

Soul singer and American Idol star Michael Lynch: December 9-15, 2024

Michael Lynch, aka “Big Mike” from “American Idol,” has released two studio albums and toured internationally, including a headlining tour of the Mediterranean. He is a frequent guest vocalist on Jeff Tyzick's “Let's Dance!” show, and recently collaborated with Tyzick on the soul-infused “R&B Legends,” which he performed with orchestras throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Comedian Tony Darrow: December 17-26, 2024

Tony Darrow is a well-known star in the New York comedy scene and has written for many well-known comedians, including Jay Leno, Bill Maher, David Letterman, Jimmy Fallon and Tina Fey. He has won the Writers Guild of America Comedy Writing Award three times and was nominated for an Emmy for his work on Saturday Night Live. Tony has appeared in dozens of television performances, but he has always cherished his live performances.

Music group Charl du Plessis Trio: January 23-27, 2025

The Charl du Plessis Trio is one of South Africa’s most renowned musical groups, having won numerous awards including the Fiësta Award, four South African Music Association Awards and the Best Instrumental Album Award. Founded in 2006, the trio performs a wide range of music, from classical to jazz, and regularly tours festivals in Europe, Asia and South Africa. The members include pianist Charl du Plessis, bassist Werner Spies and drummer Peter Orrett.

Jonathan Roxmouth, singer and performer: February 3-15, 2025

Jonathan is a South African actor who rose to fame in 2006 in the Barnyard Theatre's Grease and later played the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera. He has won several awards including the Prix Naledi and the Fleur du Cap Theatre Prize and recently returned to South Africa with the hit play Tonal Shift – My Favourite Pianist, which broke box office records.

The Seaborn Six

The “The Seabourn Six” series will feature custom productions featuring six multi-talented artists from around the world. Performances include “Better Together!”, a tribute to great bands such as The Beatles, Aerosmith and U2; “Skyline,” which takes guests on a tour of some of the world’s most iconic city skylines; “Earthsong,” which brings the elements and nature to life in a unique and moving production with immersive visuals; and “Silverscreen!”, in which the Seabourn Six performs iconic music from recent musicals including “Dear Evan Hansen” and “Moulin Rouge.”

Seaborn Cruises has brought together a dynamic line-up of celebrities and experts for Seaborn Conversations. Designed to inspire, inform and entertain, this free event offers visitors the opportunity to interact with the best minds in science, history, culture and exploration.

Each speaker will give talks, share meals, explore ashore and engage with guests throughout the cruise, providing interesting insights, expert advice and illuminating conversations.

Explorer, Adventurer and Writer: Riaan Manser: January 4-12, 2025

South African explorer Riaan Manser gained fame for being the first person to cycle around Africa, covering 37,000 km and visiting 34 countries in 24 months. His achievement earned him the title of 2006 Outdoor Explorer of the Year and his book Cycling Africa became a bestseller.

Zelda LaGrange, former private secretary to Nelson Mandela: 14-27 January 2025

Zelda La Grange is an international motivational speaker. After serving Nelson Mandela in various capacities for nearly 20 years as his closest aide, she now shares her life-changing experiences inspired by one of the most influential politicians and humanitarians.

Chris Fallows, wildlife photographer and documentary filmmaker: January 14-27, 2025

Chris Fallows is a wildlife photographer, documentary host, naturalist and conservationist. Known for his discovery of the breaching behavior of great white sharks at Cape Town's Seal Island, he has co-authored 18 scientific papers and has hosted the popular “Jaws” series on Discovery Channel's Shark Week since 2001. Through the sale of his artworks, he supports various NGOs aiming to protect habitats and participate in rewilding projects in southern Africa.

Dr. Mireya Mayor, primatologist, explorer, TV host: January 23-31, 2025

Dr. Mireya Mayor is a renowned primatologist, National Science Foundation Fellow, Fulbright Scholar, and Emmy-nominated wildlife reporter for the National Geographic Channel. She is the director of the Science Communication Program at Florida International University and a mother of six, balancing her diverse roles to earn the nickname “the female Indiana Jones.”

Eliza Reid, First Lady of Iceland: February 20-27, 2025

Iceland's First Lady Eliza Reid is an author, entrepreneur, travel writer, and co-founder of the annual Icelandic Writers' Retreat. Her book, Secrets of Spraka: Extraordinary Icelandic Women and How They Changed the World, is a memoir about her life as an immigrant to Canada before and after her husband became president of Iceland.
